Purpose for the scholarship The APHA KP Community Health Scholarship, part of the Community Health Leadership Program, is an initiative to create a group of diverse, underrepresented public health leaders who are committed to improving the health of our most vulnerable communities and supporting achievement of health equity for all in the nation. The program is funded by a grant from Kaiser Permanente National Community Benefit Fund at the East Bay Community Foundation.<br /> The scholarship supports the education of newly admitted graduate students beginning their MPH or DrPH/PhD in public health in fall 2023 at one of our eight partner universities that are committed to training the emerging public health workforce.
Requirements to qualify? The scholarship is for incoming full-time fall 2023 MPH and DrPH/PhD candidates in public health at one of our eight partner universities. Applicants must also be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents. Preference is given to those who identify as first-generation college graduates; persons from lower socioeconomic backgrounds; and those who classify under race/ethnicity groups such as Black or African American, Asian, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and individuals from other communities of color or underrepresented populations. Applicants must intend to enroll at one of our eight partner universities (Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, Georgia State University, Morgan State University, Portland State University, University of California, Berkeley, University of Colorado Anschutz, University of Hawai’i, University of Washington)
Selection criteria among applicants Each application will undergo an extensive review and select applicants will be interviewed by the Scholarship Review Committee. Applications will be reviewed for promise, academic excellence and financial need. Applicants must be prospective students who plan to enroll at one of our eight partner universities (Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, Georgia State University, Morgan State University, Portland State University, University of California, Berkeley, University of Colorado Anschutz, University of Hawai’i, University of Washington)
