Purpose for the scholarship
To strengthen nursing practice by providing assistance for advance preparation in the field of cancer nursing research.

Requirements to qualify?
Applicants must be currently enrolled in or applying to a doctoral degree program in nursing or a related field of research; must meet the requirements for doctoral study and must have been accepted by the institution to which they have applied at the time of funding; must have a current license to practice as registered nurses; must project a program of study that integrates cancer nursing and provides evidence of faculty support for the program of study; must take a minimum of 18 credit hours or 6 courses per year; must demonstrate a commitment to cancer nursing as evidenced by recent experience, education and/or research in the specialty area.

Selection criteria among applicants
Selection will be based on the relevant professional experience in oncology; involvement in professional organizations, including leadership roles; involvement in activities of the American Cancer Society or other relevant volunteer organizations; clear, explicit and realistic professional goals; consideration of program components, particularly oncology content, in selecting a doctoral program; conduct or plan to conduct research that is important, methodologically sound, and relevant to the health of persons affected with cancer or at risk for cancer; commitment from a faculty advisor who is experienced in the student’s area of study and will provide guidance in academic and research activities; selection of a doctoral program which will support the student’s professional goals and research; and dedication to cancer nursing research.
