To increase the number of underrepresented minority groups serving as intellectual property law practitioners in law firms and departments of corporations.
Applicant must be enrolled in their first year of law school; must have a STEM related degree (one that would allow them to become registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office); applicant must identify with a group underrepresented in the IP law field (Hispanics or Latinos, blacks or African Americans, and American Indians or Alaska Natives, as well as Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders).
Recipients are selected based on demonstrated commitment to developing a career in intellectual property law; academic performance during the undergraduate, graduate and law school levels; financial need; leadership skills; and community activities or special accomplishments.
