Guide / FNP Post-Master's DNP Programs
A Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Post-Master’s Doctor of Nurse Practitioner (DNP) program is a specialized academic program designed for registered nurses (RNs) who already hold a Master’s degree in nursing and want to further advance their education and skills to become experts in providing primary health care services to patients across the lifespan, with an emphasis on family-centered care.
DNP programs are typically already nurse practitioners (NPs) who hold a Master’s degree in nursing with an NP specialization. The program is designed to provide NPs with advanced knowledge and skills in clinical practice, leadership, and evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes, enhance healthcare delivery systems, and advance the nursing profession.
In some cases, post-master’s DNP programs may also admit registered nurses (RNs) who hold a master’s degree in nursing but are not yet certified as NPs. These RNs may be required to complete additional coursework and clinical hours to obtain NP certification before completing the DNP program. However, the specific admission requirements and prerequisites may vary by program and institution, so it is important to check with the program directly for more information.
